6C Travel Diary:
Monday, 23rd September:
On Monday, we started our trip to Cambridge, we met at 8 AM on the southern side of our school. By bus we drove to Schwechat Airport in Vienna. After 2 hours of torturing waiting, we finally flew to England. We arrived at Heathrow Airport after another 2 exhausting hours.
From Heathrow to Cambridge it took us another 3 hours in which we killed time by playing a traditional Austrian card game while we were on the bus. In the evening we got picked up by our host families and taxis and finally got to our accommodations.
Tuesday, 24th September:
This day we met our teachers for first time in a building called “University Centre of Cambridge”.
We had our first three lessons there with a gap of 30 minutes. After the lessons came to an end, we had two hours for lunch.
As soon as our break was over, we were excited for our afternoon activity, which was a tour through Cambridge, the city of universities, led by our guide Paul.
We saw several buildings, Colleagues and Universities, which were made popular by the people who once lived, studied or even worked there.
Wednesday, 25th September:
After waking up, every student of groups 1 and 2 had to search their way to the Corpus Christi College. Groups 3 and 4 had their lessons in the St. Catherines College which was located on the other side of the street.
After the lessons were over, all students gathered outside the two Colleges where the teachers gave us a sheet of paper with objectives, in form of taking pictures, we had to complete.
In the evening, after we finished all objectives, we got a tour guide who told us ghost stories while walking around in Cambridge.
Thursday, 26th September:
On Thursday, our classes began at 9a.m. We did different activities during the lessons. Speaking exercises, videos, writing a text and so on. After school ended, we had free time and were allowed to visit any restaurant we wanted for lunch. One hour later, we had our meeting point at the Guildhall of Cambridge. Soon we met our tour guide and visited different colleges, which were beautiful und really spacey. At the end we visited a fudge store, where we could try the freshly-made sweets, which was kind of the highlight for us all. We really enjoyed that day, but at the end we all were exhausted.
Friday, 27th September:
On 27th September we had our lessons in the famous Pitts building. After the three most boring hours of our life we did something extremely funny and exciting. We went self-punting. All of us tried this for the first time. Unfortunately, it was very rainy, and we got completely wet. We sat in a wooden boat and had long poles and a paddle to drive along the Cam river. At the mathematical Bridge we returned. Everyone who wanted to could try it. Finally, the sun was shining and we had a very beautiful view.
We enjoyed it and had a really great time.
In the evening we got together with our friends to a big restaurant and ate pizza. :)
Saturday, 28th September:
On Saturday we were in London to admire the sights of the city like the Big Ben, the London Eye or Westminster Abbey. In addition to sightseeing, some students went to famous Madam Tussauds. We also had enough time to go shopping and to have a look around. All in all, it was a very nice day and we would like to fly to London with the school again.
Sunday, 29th September:
Early in the morning on Sunday we drove with the bus to London. When we arrived, we started a little sightseeing tour and visited the tower of London, St Paul's cathedral, Tower Bridge, Trafalgar Square and the Palace of Westminster. After the tour we had about one-hour free time and had to meet again at the London dungeon. Near the meeting point there was the London eye. All students who didn't go to the London Dungeon, were allowed to walk around again. When it was over, we took the bus back to Cambridge.
Monday, 30th September:
Early in the morning we started our trip back to Austria. Therefore, we stood up at 5 a.m. and drove with our host-family or with a cab to the Police Station in the city center in Cambridge. At 6 a.m. the bus arrived and then we were driving 2 hours long to London Heathrow Airport. When we arrived there, we checked our luggage in and got our boarding passes. After that we could buy some food, drinks or souvenirs. At 11:35 a.m. our plain had to take-off but unfortunately it had some delay. At 1 p.m. we took-off and we landed at Wien-Schwechat airport at 3:30 p.m. Then we drove with bus back to our school. Finally, we arrived in Traun at 7 p.m. Everyone was tired because of the long and exhausting journey but we were all happy to be back home.
